I bought one four months ago at Home Depot. After a month, the temperature control went out for no apparent reason which caused all the contents to thaw. I unplugged the freezer, plugged it in again and it began to work. Magic Chef sent out a repairman to replace the temperature control. He seemed no at all surprised by my account of the freezer suddenly stopping then restarting.After about a month, I noticed smelly, bloody liquid coming from the freezer once again. As I'm sure you've guessed, the freezer stopped once again for no apparent reason causing the loss of all contents once again. This time the freezer restarted without any assistance whatsoever after a few days. The freezer is in my basement, so it's quite possible that the contents could have thawed, sat that way for a few days and then frozen again after the freezer restarted. I'm not a bacteriologist, but I don't think anyone would recommend eating turkey, fish, beef, etc. that has sat at room temperature for a few days before being frozen.
Magic Chef has offered to refund the purchase price, but refuses to do anything about the lost food which only totals $62.50. Nonetheless, a freezer that works 98% of the time is more worthless than a freezer that never works. At least you won't lose food in the freezer that never works.
Based on my experience, I would urge you to stay away from Magic Chef. At the very least, don't put anything that would spoil in one.
