Likewise I also waited nearly a year before buying this ice maker . I did all the troubleshooting myself to verify that this was the problem. I finally caved and bought this product as a replacement for our icemaker that broke over a year ago. I was hesitant because the icemaker that came with our GE Profile refrigerator was not durable at all especially given that the fridge was only 3 yrs old when the plastic ice level indicator arm broke off and eventually the unit stopped making ice. I am pleased to say that the replacement icemaker is working great! It doesn't seem nearly as noisy as the original one and makes ice at an acceptable rate.
