We replaced our old side by side with this Stainless KitchenAid single door bottom freezer. I did not want ice maker or water either in the door or inside the fridge. I read tons of reviews and the consistent complaint seems to be that ice makers break and they take up space. Finding a fridge with no ice maker or water was a challenge despite the fact the every sales person I met said they get frequent requests for fridges without ice maker.

Regarding single door, I decided against French Door (read complaints about them not closing properly), most side by sides had water in door. I looked at higher end brands but this KitchenAid fit the bill and we love the bottom freezer. A family probably would require more capacity but this is perfect for the two of us. I love the door storage which holds a gallon of milk. It is quiet and so far no complaints (3 months in!). We also got a KitchenAid dishwasher with same style handle to match.

Only improvement would be to have a place in door for wine bottles. Also would prefer something closer to counter depth (for aesthetics only). Otherwise love it and it Looks great!

The computer board broke and I was told by the repairman that this model will 95% of the time have this problem after about 6 yrs of use. They don't have a new part available; they have to 'repair' the broken board. It has been 3 weeks and the part has yet to materialize. Am very disappointed that Kitchen Aid is apparently aware of this inherent flaw in the product and hasn't issued a recall, or at least have the part available so it can be fixed quickly.

I have 2 of these, side by side in my kitchen and am told the other one will also fail at some point.

Shame on Kitchen Aid, and word to the wise, don't buy this product!
