I prefer the side-by-side option over the trendier french doors and this refrigerator has plenty of style and function to make it a great option. The water feature has a digital panel that controls: mode of ice, temperature of water dispensed, light (full, dim or none), lock, options and measured fill (provides amount dispensed in ounces). This panel provides plenty of customization and I love being able to tinker with these settings.
The refrigerator interior is roomy and has four shelves on top with two being adjustable and three bins on the bottom with the lowest having temperature control and the one above it humidity. The door has five container shelves that are adjustable except for the top one with its own lid. The water filter takes up a small space on the top interior shelf (measuring 6' x 2.5") and replacements are $30-40.
The freezer interior is less roomy with the ice maker and large water dispensing area. There are four adjustable shelves on top and two bins on bottom. The freezer door has two adjustable shelves. Even though larger water dispenser takes room away from the freezer, I prefer the option to use larger glasses and beverage containers. I use to use regular glasses to fill larger containers and this one allows me to use the larger container directly.
I live in NYS and it rates this refrigerator on the higher end of the energy efficiency scale and costing around $59 per year to operate. Please note that although this refrigerator appears stainless steel, only the front is the side panels are regular panels in silvery grey.
I based my last refrigerator purchase on looks and features with bad results (features did not work as promised and it was not efficient) and swore I would do a better job next time. This time I did good, no, great! This Kitchenaid side-by-side refrigerator looks great, performs well, has loads of features that are both useful and consistently work, has a roomy interior with adjustable shelves and is very energy efficient. I am thrilled with this purchase and highly recommend this refrigerator. I think it's worth every cent.We purchased this beautiful counter-depth refrigerator but it came from the factory with a dented front door that was also misaligned and the overall refrigerator had some plastic damage. Eventually, the ice maker just stop making ice. We complained and after another week we got another new KitchenAid that looked perfect. But, alas, the thrill of replacement was to be short-lived. Within 24 hours we realized that the ice maker was not working. We called the factory and they sent out a local repair service the next day (good service!)who diagnosed the problem as a defective dual valve (the one for the filter water) worked. Checking for spare parts at Whirlpool, we found that the valve had to be back-ordered. This is surprising since the valve is used on a lot of Whirlpool refrigerators. In the meantime, a few chunks of ice would form but the flow, as the repair man discovered, was restricted and there were few cubes formed. Almost immediately, a second problem occurred when we started to use the filtered water dispenser: When you place a container under the outlet, water goes into the container, but water from somewhere else leaks into the refrigerator door and down the outside of the door, leaving a puddle to clean up from my damaged hardwood floor. So, again, after much complaining about a "lemon" refrigerator, my dealer has reluctantly agreed to pick-up my refrigerator and give me back my money. A sad series of events. My advice is just don't buy it!

We had this refrigerator for 6 months and Kitchenaid had to replace it with a new unit, but the same model. Problems small ice storage, water comes out of the dispenser warm, so you have to dump the first 8 oz and then it comes out cold, as the water hose is not insulated well inside the door ( this is just bad design, and I am afraid most of them are like that). The gasket around the door sucks one door in with more power than the other, so the doors never align, no matter what and how many times our repair team tried. They even replaced the door completely still all the same problems. The inside wall between the fridge and freezer constantly gets condensation on it all over the place and water just runs down the wall. It is simply a bad design, but the problem as they say is they make all counterdepth models like that these days, and they all suck... so go figure. After 6 month of attempted repairs, we got that replacement fridge. The new refrigerator we got was having all the same problems so KitchenAid gave us a refund. We just got a Bosch instead (2 months ago). We like is much more. It has a couple of things that are just not very smart design, but it is not giving us performance problems as Kitchenaid did. The ice dispenser capacity is much higher, no problems with water, the produce drawer is much bigger than Kitchenaid and they extend fully. It is just a better fridge. Honestly, I do not know what is going on with Kitchenaid ( or Whirlpool), but we have bought a wine refrigerator from them that has all kinds of design flaws, and their refrigerator is just a huge disappointment. We have their pro series cooktop and a range hood and we like both a lot ( although there was a flaw in design of cooktop that an experienced tech managed to solve creatively). I just have no confidence in Kitchenaid any more.I think we were one of the first to get this refrigerator. It has been great. Like everything about it but because I got one of the first ones I am pretty sure they fixed some of the issues I have with mine in later models. The dispenser electronics are glitchy, when choosing a fill level, Example when using "liters" it will stop when I get up to around 150 so I have to let go of the touch pad, and try it again to get it up to 185 (that is the size of the pitcher I fill with water for making coffee every day). Also the accuracy fluctuates greatly when using "cups" as a unit of measure. The main reason I logged in today was looking to see if ice maker issues are prevalent. Mine stopped working after replacing the water filter. Water dispenser works fine, but ice maker only makes a few cubes then stops. (I cleaned the ice bucket with warm water to see if anything was causing a switch or sensor to fail. No luck. (ice bucket design is my favorite part of the fridge. It's design just works. :-) ) Next I put it on Max Ice setting several days ago, no change. Max cold, same thing. I now have everything normalized and hear a regular clicking so waiting to see if it works or not. If not, calling the store we bought it from as they are known for their repair service. Just a little worried they have an "02" version of this frig out so soon after I bought my "01".Want KitchenAid 24 Cu. Ft. Stainless Steel Side-by-Side Refrigerator - KSC24C8EYY Discount?
This KitchenAid 23.9 cf counter depth refrigerator is beautiful, inside and out. Very well constructed and it runs ultra-quietly. The fit and finish are superb. The doors and drawers line up perfectly. And the refrigerator is exceptionally sturdy in appearance and action. It just feels solid when you open and close the doors. This unit is loaded with features including water and air filtration, produce protection, measured fill, etc. etc. The interior LED lights are well placed, stunning and bright. Our fruits and veggies last longer with the crisper's built in produce protection and we love the measured fill feature which is perfectly accurate and use this every day.
We would highly recommend this refrigerator to our family and friends.
