Frost-Free operation removes the need for defrosting
Bright interior lighting makes it easy to find stored items
2 adjustable SpaceWise shelf bookends
This freezer I bought May 2013 is very noisy running and runs almost constantly, its the circulating fan that makes the running noise and its very loud, the compressor is quiet. It maintains temp, fairly good going from 0.2degrees to 6.5 degree,3/4 full. The 11 yr. old manual GE(made by Frigidaire)just stopped freezing, but was quiet as a mouse. Freezers would last almost a lifetime, according to the reviews and my own experience of 11 yrs is very poor quality. Frigidaire seems to be the generic brand for many company's,look at the model number on the inside and you'll see the exact Frigidaire model number under the brands logo.
I purchased this freezer because my older Frigidaire freezer, which I was happy with, was damaged in Hurricane Sandy. The freezer has some great features and improvements over the previous model -frost free, interior light, useful wire drawer on bottom -however, the amount of noise it generates negates every good thing about it. This thing runs so loud, you can hear it in adjoining rooms and floors above even though I have this in a closet. I also agree with the comment about the door shelves -they are flimsy.
I bought this 17 cu ft freezer and it didn't work properly out of the box. The freezer wouldn't freeze and the control panel started shorting out. I had to make a warranty claim within the first day of owning this freezer. The repairman put a new control panel in and that did the trick. I read online that this is a common problem with upright freezers so I recommend to buy from a reputable dealer. The name brand won't matter because they are all the same model freezers. I believe they are all made by Frigidaire. I probably should have just bought a used one that was made before I was born since that is the last time quality products were made. I will have to say that the shelves on the door are very flimsy and this thing runs almost non stop. I purchased the extended warranty through Frigidaire for $60 so I know that this thing will work for at least 3 years. I also read that Frigidaire's customer service is pretty bad so you may want to look elsewhere.
