My Avanti dual zone wine chiller has died within days of the 1 year warranty (I may be a few days over the warranty at most as I ordered it in November of 2008 and received it in late Nov/early Dec, and it has died in mid November 2009). I called Avanti and they refuse to honor the warranty because the PURCHASE DATE was 11/05/08 and it is now mid November 2009. I didn't even get 1 year of use out of it before it began chilling to the point of building up ice in the larger/lower zone. This zone was for my reds and was kept near room temp, yet that is the zone that has decided I would like my wines nearly frozen with the temperature set at 66 F. I do not recommend purchasing this brand as the customer service people have told me they will not honor the warranty.Read Best Reviews of AVANTI WINE COOLR 18 BTL THERMOELECTRIC DIGITAL Here
My unit stopped working after a year and a half. The Avanti service department is rude and can offer no help. If the 1 year warranty has expired your out of luck. You get what you pay for. Stay away from ths poduct.Want AVANTI WINE COOLR 18 BTL THERMOELECTRIC DIGITAL Discount?
Pros: Dual zone cooler; 18 bottles is a good capacity for a small cooler; digital temperature display; priced in between the really expensive and really cheap coolers.Cons: Fan runs constantly; no door handle, pull on the edge of the door to open; temperature varies slightly; interior light is useless in the lower compartment.
My cooler has been running for 1 week, so I can't comment on the long-term reliability issues expressed in other reviews. Time will tell. The Avanti was the right size and capacity for where I wanted to put a wine cooler. It looks classy, has digital temperature control and was in my price range. I had expected this cooler to work like the refrigerator in your kitchen, which cycles on and off to maintain temperature. The fan is quieter than a regular refrigerator, but it is always on. As for temperature stability, the temperature in both compartments varies by a degree. I have the temperature in the upper zone set 1 degree lower than my target temperature because the zone temperature seems to spend more time at 1 degree above the setting than at the set temperature. And some kind of door handle would have been nice. It's a little awkward pulling on the edge of the door to open it.
Knowing what I know now, I would have opted to spend more and get a cooler that is more like a small refrigerator.
July 11, 2010 Update: I've had this cooler for about 5 months now. I am finding that the temperature controls do not work after the unit has been on for a couple of hours. To get access to change the temperature settings, I have to unplug the unit and start over. I am also finding the upper compartment temperature is off by as much as 10 degrees from what I have set. That means that, even though I've set it for 48, it is showing 58.
This cooler is alright if you don't have more to spend for a wine cooler. I plan to sell this one and buy a better one.I've had the misfortune of having two of these coolers. After the first one failed within a year, the second one also failed short of a year. The bottom part, where you keep your red wines, completely failed on both units.
Calling "Customer service" was a joke. I ended up hanging up on them. They refused to accept back the unit or send a technician to service it.
The only reason I gave this product one star is that zero stars was not an option. You are better off buying a tray of ice cubes than this cooler.
