Kitchen Aid Architect II 24 In. Stainless Steel Built-In Double Drawer Refrigerator - KDDC24CVS

Kitchen Aid Architect II 24 In. Stainless Steel Built-In Double Drawer Refrigerator - KDDC24CVSWe just purchased this refrigerator/freezer. The design seems very nice and practical, nothing bad to say about that. However, the unit is extremely loud. I am twenty five feet away from the refrigerator as I type this review and I can hear the cooling fan clear as a bell. We had a technician check it out and he said that is just the way it is and there was nothing he could do about it. If you do decide to buy this unit, may I suggest you also purchase a good set of ear plugs.

I agree with the other reviewer that this unit is very loud. The inside layout is nice, and it works well, but I wouldn't have bought it if I had known it was this loud.

we've had our unit for over three years and it performs great. the top refrig is handy at the wet bar for drinks and the freezer keeps the ice within reach, too. looks good and everyone complements us on the unit.

Bad design, : We've owned this refrigerator for slightly over three years. In that time, the control board in the top shelf failed twice ( part costs $510), and the wiring to the top drawer (part costs $110) has failed four times. The movement of the top drawer when you open and close it bends it back and forth so it eventually breaks. Two weeks ago the wiring broke again, and then over the weekend the fridge and freezer failed completely (compressor won't run).

Bad customer service: I think Whirlpool should make a fridge that doesn't break, or that at least the repair parts should be cheap (250 feet of the wire used in the $110 top drawer wiring costs $100 online). I called Whirlpool to complain and I was told by the person on the phone that the fridge was "made by humans" and it is so complicated with all the onboard electronics that I should "expect the fridge to break" this frequently, so it was my fault that I didn't buy the extended warranty coverage ($519).

We are going to replace this with another fridge from a different manufacturer.
